Suggested Reading

These titles have had a great impact on my understanding of the issues I blog about & are must-reads on these topics.

Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
A shrewd look into the lives of those living with mental illness while in locked in a mental health facility in the late ’60s.

Wasted by Marya Hornbacher
A memoir told with an extraordinarily real interpretation of the stark reality of eating disorders.

Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness by Pete Earley
The true story of a father baffled by the unjust treatment of his mentally ill son & a look into the shocking condition of America’s mental health crisis.

The Obesity Myth by Paul Campos
The facts about the so-called “obesity epidemic” that explains the size of our bodies does not automatically determine our overall health.

The Antisocial Personalities by David T. Lykken
A descriptive analysis of antisocial personality disorder, the difference between a “sociopath” & a “psychopath.” This book basically describes  antisocial personality as a spectrum, I found, and gives depth to the disorder.

Madness: A Bipolar Life by Marya Hornbacher
The sequel to Wasted, Marya Hornbacher desribes her life with type one bipolar disorder, as well as divorce & alcoholism. I found this to be the greatest insight into bipolar disorder I have ever read.
